  • July 1993 - Exploratory meeting of Cochrane Musculoskeletal Group

  • October 1993 - Proposal drafted to start collaborating with the Cochrane Collaboration in low-back pain

  • November 1993 - Cochrane Musculoskeletal Group registered with the Collaboration

  • April 1994 - Exploratory meeting of Musculoskeletal Working Subgroup - Backs

  • October 1994 - Preliminary meeting of Cochrane Musculoskeletal Back Sub-group in Hamilton, Canada

  • 1995, 1996 - Institute for Work & Health agrees to host Back sub-group - Coordinator hired, editors recruited

  • October 1997 - Back Group publishes Method guidelines for systematic reviews in the Cochrane Collaboration Back Review Group for Spinal Disorders

  • December 1998 - Registration of the Back Review Group for Spinal Disorders as a Cochrane Collaborative Review Group

  • January 1999 - Name changed to Cochrane Back Review Group (CBRG)

  • April 2000 - Additional part-time coordinator hired 

  • October 2002 - Back Group signs declaration as a Participating Organization in support of the Bone and Joint Decade

  • June 2003 - Back Group updates its 1997 method guidelines

  • August 2009 - Back Group updates its 2003 method guidelines

  • February 2010 - Back Group publishes its first Diagnostic Test Accuracy review, Physical examination for lumbar radiculopathy due to disc herniation in patients with low-back pain

  • September 2014 - Back Group holds its first conference prior to Forum XIII in Brazil; and presents first Scientific Award for Best Review and Lifetime Achievement Award

  • June 2015 - Name changed to Cochrane Back and Neck (CBN)

  • April 2020 - Back and Neck group moved to Australia to become part of the Musculoskeletal (MSK) Group
